Orange County Drug Rehab

In 2005, the official population of the State of California was approximately 36,132,147*. Of that number, over 2% admitted to a dependence on an illicit drug within the past year.

Just in case that did not sink in, please allow me to repeat: "More (greater than) 2% of all California residents (that's 2% of approximately 37 MILLION* people), are addicted to drugs.

Whatever the circumstances, and whatever name it may go by, people-many through no fault og their own, are now "drug dependent." Call it something else, reality is that these people are, at least for now..."Addicted to Drugs".

"Drugs" is an umbrella term however. It can mean everything from Marijuana to Prescription Pain Meds. And though admissions to rehabilitation centers have declined, the truth is that many substance abusers do not rely on treatment facilities or local resources available to them anyway. This story could just as easily end right there. Because, as stated above, "Many substance abusers simply do not use treatment facilities or local resources available to them..."

Now there's the real question.

Why don't California addicts rely on or take advantage of local help or treatment? Is it because:

  • Many county funded or" free" treatment is 12 Step Based?

  • The waiting lists for these programs can be months?
  • The study did not take into account whether an addict even wanted to stop using yet?
  • Confidentiality at some of these programs is just a word?
  • Many of the free programs are Church or Religious based.

Or Is it something completely different?
